- W2023448356 abstract "Abstract Excess of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous in the nutritional source of citrus seedlings ( Citrus sinensis L. var. baladi ) increased their resistance to infestation with the red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell), while their decrease caused the plant to be highly susceptible. On the other hand, the excess of nitrogen, potassium or phosphorous or all of them in the nutritional source increased the susceptibility of the plants to infestation with the purple scale Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman). These findings coincide with field observations which indicate that the red scale is more distributed in citrus orchards of sand soils characterised by deficiency in nitrogen content, while the purple scale mainly infests orchards in fertilised soils with high nitrogen and potassium contents. Chemical analysis of the leaves of citrus seedlings tested with different nutrients showed no significant correlation between the amounts of sugars, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous and the build up of population of both scale insect species. @default.
