- W2023491437 abstract "Abstract EVIDENCE that experimentally produced coccidiosis can be prevented by the use of sulphur or sulphur with charcoal has been reported by Goff and Upp (1940a) and Goff (1941a). Many technical and practical problems involving the use of these materials in coccidiosis prevention remain unsolved. To secure additional needed information the following experiments were undertaken. METHODS AND PROCEDURE The technic of preparing a suspension of sporulated oocysts of Eimeria tenella suitable for inoculation purposes has been described by Goff (1941a). Flowers of sulphur and charcoal, commercially called number 10 hardwood charcoal, were used throughout these studies. No attempt was made in these trials to adjust the nutrients displaced by the sulphur or charcoal. The conditions under which the chicks were confined and the basal ration used were reported by Goff and Upp (1940a). A total of 1,054 chicks were inoculated in this series of experiments.
