D. Abstract Scanner observations and hydrogen line profiles are presented for the majority of the classical p Cephei stars, some recently confirmed P Cephei stars, and some of Hill's Cephei candidates. These data, together with data from other sources and a sample of nonvarying early B stars, are used to obtain stellar temperatures and gravities via the Morton model atmospheres. The existence of a Cephei strip in the (0,, log g)-plane is demonstrated and its correspondence with the S-bend region of theoretical evolutionary tracks is noted. The normality of the p Cephei phenomenon for slow rotators is emphasized. For comparison, (Mb,I, log T,) values derived by using the Petrie luminosity calibration are presented. A significant discrepancy exists between these data and those derived from the (0,, log g) approach. Masses and radii derived from the (0,, log g) data are given. These, combined with the periods of the classical p Cephei stars, give a mean pulsational constant (Q = 0.037. This value agrees well with the theoretically calculated Qo value of late-main-sequence evolutionary models.
