- W2023494549 abstract "Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image sizeIn this article different theoretical positions from the framework for investigating a possible solution for the body-mind problem in Kleist's philosophy of movement in his Über das Marionettentheater, are discussed. The first position, Descartes's rationalism, claims that mental phenomena have a causal effect in the sphere of physical phenomena. With Kleist's anecdote about the young man, reflecting on his own movements, I try to point out the extreme consequences of this theory: inwardness capturing the outward. The thesis of the second position, Hume's empiricism as well as modern positivism, states: the sphere of physical phenomena is causally closed. Kleist's narrative about the mechanism of the puppets pictures a scene with which Hume and modern positivists end with: an inside falling prey to the outside behaviour. The third position results as a connection of Heidegger's and especially Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological thought with Kleist's story about the fighting bear and Herrigel's Zen-Buddhistic philosophy of archery. Hereby I attempt to show how the ontological dualsim can be dissolved in a movement in which the 'thinking body' displays an immediate mental access to physical phenomena. Finally I develop a critical perspective on the range of this immediacy." @default.
