- W2023621613 abstract "<h2>Abstract</h2> Spleen and peripheral-blood lymphocytes from ten patients with Hodgkin's disease have been studied for the relative distribution of T and B lymphocytes. Nine patients were untreated and eight had nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's disease. The response of lymphocytes to phyto-hæmagglutinin (P.H.A.) after 72 hours in culture, and their capacity to form rosettes with sheep red blood-cells, were used as indicators for T-lymphocyte function and surface-bound immunoglobulins as a marker for B lymphocytes. In the spleens the mean percentage of T lymphocytes (P.H.A.-responsive cells) was significantly higher (67%) than that in the non-malignant spleens (28%). In the peripheral blood the proportion of T and B lymphocytes was within the normal range. In addition, the mean percentage of spontaneously transformed lymphocytes in the cultures of splenic lymphocytes was significantly higher in Hodgkin's disease than in non-malignant diseases. These findings may indicate an immunological reaction in the spleens of patients with Hodgkin's disease." @default.
