- W2023754702 abstract "Abstract A chemisorbed layer of sulfur on Pt(111) undergoes a reversible phase transition to a disordered state at elevated temperature. This transition was studied by the measurement of LEED intensities and LEED beam broadening in the region of coverage between 0.1 and 0.35 (p(2 x 2) and ( 3 × 3 )R30° structure). A two-dimensional phase diagram was established and a Monte Carlo calculation was carried out in order to determine the parameters of pairwise interaction. This calculation yields interaction energies between first, second and third nearest neighbours of 11.26, -2.5 and -2.9 kJ mol -1 , respectively. We conclude further that the transition of the p(2 x 2) layer is of second order, whereas that of the ( 3 × 3 ) ) overlayer is possibly a first order transition." @default.
