The study of glass-ceramic materials based on the system SiO2-Li2O-Al2O3, using differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy revealed the nucleation and growth, in the glass structure, of crystalline phases with nature and distribution very sensitively controlled by the heat-treatment program. These phases have a strong effect on the physical and mechanical properties of glass-ceramic materials when their volume fractions reach values higher than 15 %. They also tend to lower the coefficient of thermal expansion and consequently improve the resistance to thermal shock of these materials without reducing considerably the transparence which is characterized by the refractive index and the absorption coefficient. Fracture surfaces produced by thermal and mechanical shocks of glass-ceramic materials put in evidence the role of the morphology and of the crystalline phase distribution on the resistance to abrupt crack propagation. L'étude de la structure des vitrocéramiques à base de SiO2-Li2O-Al2O3, par analyse thermique différentielle (ATD), diffraction des rayons X et microscopie électronique à balayage, met en évidence la germination et la croissance, dans la structure vitreuse, de phases cristallines dont la nature et la distribution sont étroitement liées aux cycles thermiques. Ces phases modifient sensiblement les propriétés physiques et mécaniques des vitrocéramiques lorsque leurs fractions volumiques atteignent des valeurs supérieures à 15% ; elles abaissent le coefficient de dilatation et améliorent en conséquence la résistance aux chocs thermiques sans réduire considérablement la transparence caractérisée par l'indice de réfraction et le coefficient d'absorption. Les faciès de rupture par chocs thermiques et mécaniques des vitrocéramiques mettent en évidence le rôle de la morphologie et de la distribution des phases cristallines dans la résistance à la propagation brutale des fissures." @default.
