- W2023804606 abstract "Imaging of the male genital tract is usually not the main focus of radiologists, except those who are mainly interested in urogenital radiology. Thus, the number of books dedicated to this anatomic region is really small. However, diseases of the penis and scrotum can generate very acute and severe symptoms and can confront every radiologist on duty. This is not only relevant in childhood, where torsion of the testis can be the cause of severe pain that requires acute diagnosis and treatment, but also in the adult where torsions or—more commonly—inflammations can be observed. Therefore, knowledge about the normal anatomy, the imaging, and the radiological appearance of common diseases of the male genital tract is not only mandatory for dedicated urogenital radiologists, but also for every radiologist working in the hospital or even in private practice. Particularly for these people, the present volume, “Imaging of the Penis and Scrotum”, by Matthew Rifkin and Dennis Cochlin, seems to be an ideal tool. It is organized according to problem-orientation, and this organization allows the fast finding of acutely needed information. After general remarks on embryology, as well as normal anatomy and imaging methods, diseases of the lower male genital tract and their diagnosis are summarized in chapters according to the primary symptoms. For example, there is one chapter entitled, “Scrotal masses and scrotal enlargement”, followed by “The painful scrotum”. This symptom-related approach provides the ability to obtain a fast overview in case of admission of a patient for scrotal imaging. Knowing the symptoms and acute problems of the patient, quick orientation and information is possible using the present volume. The large number of high-quality images of the main diseases and situations facilitates understanding and learning for anyone not so familiar with the imaging of the male lower genital tract." @default.
