- W2023887653 abstract "It has recently been reported that hydrolysis rates of monophenyl terephthalate (MPT−), an anionic carboxylic acid ester, are more than order of magnitude higher in 10 g/liter aluminum oxide suspensions than in particle-free solutions. The present study demonstrates that natural organic matter (NOM), ubiquitous in aquatic environments, lowers both the extent of MPT− adsorption to the aluminum oxide surface and Kh, the rate constant for MPT− hydrolysis. A competitive effect is observed, since inhibition by a particular NOM concentration can be compensated for by increasing the aluminum oxide loading. The presence of NOM and other specifically adsorbing species in natural aquatic environments is expected to have a significant effect on the adsorption and reaction of organic compounds on mineral surfaces." @default.
