Chemical characterisation is performed using laser microprobe mass spectrometry (LMMS) and electron microprobe analysis complementarily. Time-resolved molecular background absorption measurements are used to obtain information about the gas phase constituents inside the measuring cell and assignment of specific bands is based on LMMS results. The methodology requires that large amounts of analyte are heated in the furnace. Under these conditions, aerosol analysis points to volatilisation of SnCl2 in the virtual absence of tin oxides, whereas sulphates are partly converted into pyrosulphites and oxidised sulphides." @default.
