- W2023986404 abstract "In a poxvirus-HeLa cell system, viral induction of the “messenger” for thymidine kinase synthesis is completed within 2 hours of infection. Experiments in which RNA synthesis was inhibited by actinomycin D, showed that although repression of thymidine kinase synthesis occurred at 6 hours after virus infection, the messenger for this enzyme is potentially stable for 18 hours. The establishment of repression is prevented both by actinomycin D and puromycin hydrochloride (an inhibitor of protein synthesis), a result indicating that the establishment of repression requires the synthesis of both RNA and protein. Evidence is presented suggesting that repression of virus-induced thymidine kinase synthesis is due, not to interference with the transcription of viral DNA into kinase messenger RNA, but to interference with the expression of the messenger. The induced enzyme has a higher thermostability and a lower Michaelis constant than the corresponding enzyme of uninfected cells." @default.
