- W2024066075 abstract "Abstract The actual evapotranspiration (AE) and potential evapotranspiration (PE) data for the 1984 vegetation season over the United Kingdom supplied by the U.K. Meteorological Office Rainfall and Evapotranspiration Calculation System (MORECS) are used to indicate moisture stress variation on the vegetation canopy. Raw and atmospherically corrected normalized difference vegetation indices (NDVIs) for the same period are calculated from 10 images obtained from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) in order to test the effect of the atmosphere on the NDVI dynamics interpretation.. Comparison of the NDVI seasonal cycle (for various surface-cover types) with the moisture stress variation shows that i) there is a marked improvement in our understanding of the vegetation dynamics if remotely sensed data are corrected for atmospheric effects and ii) the relationship between the NDVI and moisture stress seems to depend on the type of vegetation present in the area in question." @default.
