This article represents information furnished to the Office of Defense, the Selective Service, The National Security Resources Board, and others in our national government on this problem. The Committee has reason to believe that furnishing of this information has helped bolster the idea that scientists, and agronomists in particular, should be efficiently used in a national emergency. Many agronomists in State and Federal experiment stations and extension services, agricultural colleges and universities, and in industry have been freely consulted for their opinions and as a source for data pertinent to the subject. The Committee wishes to express its sincere appreciation to all of these people who are too numerous to list separately.
