- W2024091351 abstract "The Yale tandem Van de Graaff accelerator was used as a mass spectrometer to detect 26Al. The ion source was modified by the addition of a Pierce electrode and the source was operated with a reflected cesium beam geometry utilizing ∼ 1 mg samples of Al2O3. An electrostatic analyzer was installed after the analyzing magnet in order to separate the Al5+ beam from various background beams. We were able to detect 26Al in Al extracted from the iron meteorite Mundrabilla. The measured 26Al/27Al ratios ranged from 1 × 10−12 to 1 × 10−9 atoms/atom. Using the model of Hampel et al., we have determined the exposure age of Mundrabilla to be 220±60 million years. This age agrees fairly well with the exposure age as determined with 53Mn and 38Ar." @default.
