- W2024162885 abstract "Carp oocytes are surrounded by a thick proteic layer: the vitelline membrane. Dilution of these oocytes from the ovarian fluid into various media triggers the elevation of this vitelline layer and its hardening into a tough chorion. We show that it is easier to analyse this elevation by viewing the chorion from the side rather than from above because the egg-cell remains at the bottom of the chorionic envelope. The kinetics of this elevation were delayed but not totally inhibited by dilution in saline solutions instead of fresh water. This delay in chorion elevation increased the time-period during which these oocytes could be fertilized after dilution. The kinetics of chorion elevation were similar with fertilized or unfertilized oocytes, suggesting that this phenomenon is not triggered by the fusion with sperm. Ageing of the ovulated oocytes either in the ovaries or in vitro after spawning (in the ovarian fluid on ice or at room temperature) did not affect the kinetics of chorion elevation even after 9 h ageing. However, the fertility of these ovulated oocytes was reduced after about 4 h." @default.
