In this case the model should apply to the highly conducting emeraldine salt. Besides the commensurate period-4 Peierls state we find an incommensurate state and a homogeneous planar configuration as ground states. The incommensurate state and additional metastable higher periodic adiabatic configurations can be characterized as charge separation states. The system can realize by them on a chain segment a lower band filling and, thereby, a lower commensurability (higher stability). A comparison with experimental results on the conductivity behavior of the emeraldine salt is made in order to understand the physical significance of the model ground states." @default.
