- W2024306035 abstract "Two new methods of measuring the velocity of thermophoresis of aerosol particles are developed and applied. The first method is based on observing and averaging the velocity of aerosol particles moving across a section of a horizontal slit with a longitudinal temperature gradient. The second method is based on measuring the deflection of a narrow aerosol stream introduced isokinetically into a flow of pure air in the field of a transverse temperature gradient. The results of both methods are in agreement within the limits of the error of measurement with each other, with the Derjaguin-Bakanov-Yalamov theory of thermophoresis of large particles, and with the Derjaguin-Bakanov formula for the velocity of thermophoresis of small particles, and contradict the Epstein and Brock formulas. Measurements of the velocity profile of particles in a slit with a longitudinal temperature gradient enabled determination of the velocity profile of thermal transpiration, the shape of which was found to be incompatible with Maxwell's thermal slip conception." @default.
