- W2024320834 abstract "The palatability dimension of taste stimuli has usually been studied in nonhuman species by two-stimulus preference tests, operant procedures, and neural recording from the chorda tympani. This study used a procedure that measures directly the activity of tongue when stimulated by various gustatory stimuli. Negative feedback from post ingestive influences on drinking was minimized by limiting exposure to brief periods of time. The results showed that by integrating the number of licks that occur during these brief exposure periods functions can be obtained that bear a striking similarity to palatability functions obtained by other methods. They also provide evidence for a delayed post ingestive inhibitory effect on drinking rate that derives from a previously ingested meal. This effect may be related to palatability changes of sweet solutions and changes in the amount of a liquid diet ingested following a preceding meal that have recently been described in humans." @default.
