- W202447504 abstract "SummaryThe influence of 6 weeks intermittent swimming or experimentally induced emotional excitation (also termed “shock-induced aggression”) on blood pressure and cardiac myosin heterogeneity of male Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive (SH) rats was investigated. Swimming was carried out under conditions avoiding hypothermia and exhaustion. Emotional excitation was induced by subjecting rats in pairs to unpredictable electric stimulation. Daily swimming extending over 6 weeks resulted in significantly reduced systolic blood pressure in normotensive Wistar rats (70 ± 7mmHg vs. 83 ± 12 mm Hg of controls) and SHR (109 ± 5mmHg vs. 137 ± 16 mm Hg of controls). Experimentally induced emotional excitation of the same time course as swimming did not alter significantly blood pressure of Wistar rats and SHR. The reduction in blood pressure following swimming was accompanied by a shift of the left ventricular myosin isoenzyme population in favour of ventricular myosin (VM)-1 in Wistar rats (78.7 ± 3.9 % VM-1 vs. 59.4 ± 7.8 % VM-1 of controls) and SHR (60.9 ± 3.4 % VM-1 vs. 36.7 ± 5.2 % VM-1 of controls). Experimentally induced emotional excitation did not affect significantly the myosin isoenzyme population of Wistar rats, but led to a significant decrease in VM-1 in SHR (29.3 ± 4.8% VM-1 vs. 36.9 ± 4.9% VM-1 of controls). It is concluded that the changes following swimming cannot be attributed solely to stress, which may be elicited by the present swimming routine, but arise predominantly from the exercise component of swimming." @default.
