- W2024761939 abstract "Adsorption chromatography is the widest used of all the methods of separation possible in the liquid phase. Most applications of classical column chromatography are based on the use of packing materials such as silica gel, alumina, charcoal, and Florisil, all of which possess very definite adsorptive properties. Separations achieved by adsorptive processes are typified by their ability to resolve sample components into their respective classes according to the polar functional groups present in the component molecules, rather than resolving compounds of essentially similar polarity and differing by the extent of aliphatic substitution. In addition to the separating components of a sample into classes, liquid–solid chromatography (LSC) is particularly effective at resolving mixtures of isomers such as geometrical isomers—that is, cis/trans pairs—and positional isomers because of different substitution in an aromatic nucleus. It is also possible to carry out adsorption chromatography using nonpolar adsorbents in a manner similar to that of reversed-phase chromatography." @default.
