- W2024762881 abstract "Humic acid-like components (HAL) were isolated by conventional procedures from various organic wastes, including animal manures, a municipal solid refuse and a sewage sludge, that were composted for 2–3 months with the earthworms Eisenia foetida or Lumbricus rubellus. Vermicompost HAL contain appreciable amounts of iron and copper in inner-sphere complexes of definite chemical and geometrical forms, similar to those found in humic acids (HA) from soil and other sources. Similarly to soil HA and irrespective of the nature of the parent material, vermicompost HAL are able to bind large amounts of iron and copper ions in waterstable, inner-sphere complexes involving sites and mechanisms almost reversible to proton exchange. Vermicompost humic acid-like components can be considered adequate analogues of soil HA as far as it concerns their metal complexation properties and behavior." @default.
