- W2025407219 abstract "1. A method is described for the measurement of the specific radioactivities of individual molecular species of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine; the method involves a combination of silver nitrate thin-layer chromatography and countercurrent distribution followed by a mathematical analysis of the data obtained. 2. The specific radioactivities of individual molecular species of phospholipids in the livers of normal rats and rats deficient in the essential fatty acids have been determined 1 h after intraperitoncal injection of (32Plorthophosphate; it lias been shown previously that under these conditions the specific radioactivities of the phospholipid molecules present in rat liver are measures of the relative rates of turnover of these molecules. 3. It has been demonstrated that the high average specific radioactivity of the phospholipids in the livers of rats deficient in essential fatty acids is due to the increased amounts of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-,sn-glyceryl-3-phosphorylcholineand -phosphorylethanolamine and also to the increased rates of turnover of these compounds. 4. Of the phosphatidylcholine molecules present in normal rat liver, the 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl compound was found to have the slowest rate of turnover; in rats deficient in essential fatty acids, the 1-stearoyl-2-(5,8,ii-eicosatrienoyl) molecule has the slowest turnover rate and the arachidonoyl compound is turning over at a faster rate." @default.
