- W2025646985 abstract "Abstract Density transfer experiments with 32P-labeled T7 bacteriophage were conducted at various multiplicities of infection. During the course of a normal infection very large amounts of unreplicated T7 parental DNA were detected by CsCl density gradient analysis when high multiplicities of infection were used to infect the cells. Only very small amounts of this conservative DNA were found among the progeny phages, however, if unattached parental phages were removed by differential sedimentation. Complementation and recombination studies with delayed superinfection showed that exclusion of secondary phage occurs soon after infection by primary phage. This exclusion could be overcome by preincubation of cells with chloramphenicol (CM). Treatment with CM subsequently allowed participation of large amounts of parental DNA in the replication process. Blender experiments similar to those of Hershey and Chase (J. Gen. Physiol.36, 39–56) showed that the exclusion of secondary phage occurred at the injection stage of T7+ infection." @default.
