- W2026375725 abstract "The purpose of the present study was to: 1) compare the critical power (CP) estimates from four mathematical models; and 2) compare the peak oxygen consumption (V O2peak) value from a maximal incremental test with the end V O2 values from continuous cycling bouts at the four CP estimates and the highest CP estimate plus 10% (CP+10%). Seven healthy females ( age ± SD = 22 ± 2 yrs) performed an incremental test to exhaustion to determine O2peak, and five or six workbouts at power outputs ranging from peak power (Ppeak)-100 watts (W) to Ppeak + 50 W, to estimate CP. Each subject then completed continuous workbouts to exhaustion, or a time limit of 60 min., at their CP estimates from the four CP models and CP+10%. The results indicated that the mean CP from the Nonlinear, 3 parameter model (Non-3) was significantly (P < 0.05) less than the other models. The end O2 values from the continuous rides at the CP estimates of the four models were each significantly lower than O2peak and the CP+10% values. The O2peak and CP+10% values, however, were not significantly different. These results indicated that CP values, estimated from the four models used here, were not sufficient to drive O2 to its maximum via the slow component of O2 kinetics. The demarcation point between heavy and severeintensity exercise is between CP and CP+10%." @default.
