- W2026432178 abstract "During the first 4 days of incubation the spinal ganglion of the chick embryo shows an epithelium-like structure. The primitive neuroblasts appear closely arranged and linked by two morphologically distinct types of junction: adhesion plaques (button-like, adhering junctions) and fasciae occludentes (more extensive, tight junctions). Both these junctions very likely play a role in the adhesion between the neuroblasts; their role in the maintenance of tissue architecture appears to be significant, because in this early developmental stage the ganglion lacks connective tissue. The fasciae occludentes are possibly involved also in other functions, which are discussed. All the junctions here described are temporary structures. They begin to disappear during incubation days 5 and 6 (when the satellite cells develop and intervene between the neuroblasts), and they are no longer observed in later developmental stages of the spinal ganglion. The possible mechanisms of disappearance of the junctions are briefly discussed." @default.
