- W2027432405 abstract "Amorphous Mn(II)/Fe(III)-hydroxides coprecipitated from the corresponding nitrates by sodium hydroxide at pH = 9.5 have been washed with distilled water and as aqueous suspensions, submitted to age at various temperatures. Aliquots of the suspensions after given time intervals have been filtered, dried in air, powdered and identified by magnetic measurements and X-ray determination. The highest specific magnetization was obtained in samples with primary composition 0.6 MnO·0.4 Fe2O3 stored 60 days at 80°C and 0.7 MnO·0.3 Fe2O3 aged at 100°C for 15 h. After warming the powder at 100–300°C instead of observing an increase in value at the expense of loss of water, the magnetization within this range drops considerably. It has been suggested that the magnetic properties belong to a solid solution with spinel structure formed during the aging, which for simplicity may be formulated as Mn2+xFe3+1−x Fe3+(5+x)/3□13]O4. Thermally unstable, this material undergoes d composition the first stage would be the disproportionation of manganese ferrite to hausmannite and magnetite, which in turn would oxidize to maghemite, transforming at higher temperatures to hematite." @default.
