- W2027681305 abstract "Lumiflavin was reduced by the solvated electron, .CO-2 radicals and EDTA radicals in the presence of 0.01–0.05 M EDTA. The three reductants produced Fl intermediates with the same absorption spectrum and which decayed by a first order process with a t12 of ∼400 μs. This was in contrast to .F1H intermediates in the absence of EDTA, which exhibited a different absorption spectrum and decayed by second order kinetics. These changes were attributed to complexation with EDTA of the .F1H semiquinone formed by the reducing radicals. Complexation did not alter the stoichiometric yield of F1H- from the semiquinone decay, a feature which agreed with previous photochemical studies. The reduction by EDTA radicals was not a simple bimolecular process and occurred on a much longer (∼150μs) time scale than for the other radicals. The complex kinetics of the growth was in line with predictions based on the mechanism of reaction of EDTA radicals reported by Armstrong, Hemmerich and Traber (Photochem. Photobiol. 1982, 35, 747), but there are further complicating factors which need to be considered." @default.
