- W2028064694 abstract "A mechanism is proposed for the interpretation of Brdička currents observed with traces of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in ammoniacal buffers. Even very small concentrations of calcium or magnesium chloride greatly affect the pattern and magnitude of Brdička currents. In buffer solutions 1 to 3×10−7 M in BSA and 0.005 M in calcium, two well-defined Brdička currents which are kinetically controlled are observed. In many ammoniacal buffers in the absence of calcium only one Brdička wave is observed while a sharp peak is observed in 2.5×10−7 M BSA, the current then decreasing to a sharp minimum. In buffers at least 0.05 M in ammonium chloride and at least 0.5 M in ammonia polarograms obtained in buffers with Co(NH3)63+ are very similar to those with Co(NH3)62+, also at temperatures between 0 and 40°C; but at smaller concentrations of NH4+ or NH3 there are large differences because of the small stability of Co(NH3)62+. The effects of pH, concentration of ammonia, ammonium chloride and of temperature have been studied at constant ionic strength. Alkali salts also affect pattern and magnitude of Brdička currents. These currents are observed even at pH greater than 11." @default.
