- W2028638857 abstract "The Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome belongs to the group of conduction anomalies characterized by preexcitation. Preexcitation itself can be defined as the condition in which the whole or some parts of the ventricular muscle is activated earlier by a supraventricular impulse than would be expected if the impulse reached the ventricles by way of the normal specific conduction system only [l]. Gillette [2] has added to this the conditions in which the atrial muscle is excitated earlier than would be expected had the impulse reached the atrium retrogradely by way of the normal atrioventricular conduction system. In this review, we will limit ourselves to discussion of the classical Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome in which the preexcitation is based on a direct muscular connexion between the atrial and ventricular myocardial masses [3]. These accessory atrioventricular pathways are localized in the right or left free wall or in the ventricular septum. Multiple pathways, with two or more in the same free wall or with one bundle in a free wall and another in the opposite side, have also been encountered." @default.
