- W2029221362 abstract "The induction time, T, and contact time, TK, are two important parameters for describing laws of bubble/particle interactions in solid/liquid suspensions. A fundamental law of bubble/particle attachment is reflected by the total attachment probability P{T < TK}. To calculate its value, knowledge of the probability distributions of induction time, FT, and of contact time, FTK, is required. Using very general suppositions, it is shown that FT and FTK belong to the exponential family. By specialization of the attachment intensity, which is included in the general statement for the distribution of induction time and dependent on contact time, this statement is reduced to known classes of distribution: exponential distribution, gamma distribution, and Weibull's distribution. These are again special cases of the generalized gamma distribution. The distributions are interpreted physically and their real existence demonstrated by using practical examples obtained from contact measurements with different monodisperse systems of material. The behaviour of the total attachment probability P{T < TK} as a function of the distribution of induction time, FT, and of the parameters of FT and FTK is clearly demonstrated. It can be seen that the model of a Markov process frequently used in the theory of queues to establish exponentially distributed residence times is suitable to describe some processes in solid/liquid suspensions. The work reported here, therefore, also establishes further laws of bubble/particle interaction and attachment. The minimum contact time, t0, theoretically founded and experimentally confirmed corresponds possibly to the “induction time”, a term used in physical model statements, for instance by Kremer (1986).With the results further problems are mentioned, which could be important for the technology of real flotation systems and call for further experiments. The combination of stochastic and physical model statements of the kinetics of flotation will certainly be useful to establish parameters of stochastic models." @default.
