- W2029298594 abstract "The kinetics of entry of 35SO42 in Chlorella pyrenoidosa harvested during the exponential growth phase has been studied. Sulphate accumulates in the cell against a concentration gradient. The transport is sensitive to dinitrophenol and has high temperature coefficients. The rate of accumulation of SO42− increased after preincubation of the cells in a medium lacking this ion and decreases when sulphate is present in the external solution. Intracellular sulphate does not exchange with sulphate in the medium. The Km's of the rates of absorption are of the order of 1.2·10−6M-SO32−-S2O32−, S2− and the anions of group VI of the type XO42− inhibit the entry of sulphate. For one of these ions, CrO42, the only one studied more closely, the −inhibition has been shown to be competitive. The Ki is of the order of 4·10−7M. The decrease and increase of the rates of entry of SO42− after preincubation in a medium with and without sulphate, respectively, indicate a mechanism of regulation. The variations are too rapid to be attributed to a control at the genetic level. A hypothesis for a feed-back effector formed during sulphate metabolism which appears in the presence of this ion and disappears in its absence is offered to account for these phenomena. @default.
