- W2029672014 abstract "Objective: As many factors may influence the acceptability of a contraceptive method, we analyzed acceptability data obtained during a large safety and efficacy study conducted in North America.Design: This was a large, open-label, noncomparative, multicenter study conducted in the United States and Canada.Materials/Methods: The study duration was 13 cycles and subjects used one ring per cycle, with three continuous weeks of ring use followed by a 1-week ring-free period. Acceptability was assessed by a 21-item questionnaire administered at screening, cycle 3, cycle 6, and endpoint. Items included ′ease of ring insertion/removal,′ ′user/partner feeling the ring during intercourse,′ and ′partner minding ring use.′ Data from the last assessment are presented, regardless of whether subjects completed the study or discontinued early. We analyzed data for the 1177 treated women. Results: Nearly all women were satisfied or very satisfied with NuvaRing® (83%) and would recommend it to other women (91%). Ninety-seven percent of women considered NuvaRing® always easy or frequently easy to insert. Ninety-seven percent of women considered NuvaRing® always or frequently easy to remove. Eighty-two percent of women and 67% of partners never or rarely felt the ring during intercourse. Ninety-one percent of men never or rarely minded that their partners were using NuvaRing®.Conclusions: NuvaRing® is a highly acceptable method of contraception.Supported by: Supported by Organon Inc, West Orange, New Jersey.
