- W2029910750 abstract "ABSTRACT This paper investigates eects of operation parameters on multitarget tracking in proximity sensor networks. Insuch a network, the sensors report a detection when a target is within the proximity; otherwise, the sensors reportno detection. Previous work has revealed the potential of multitarget tracking via the particle-based probabilityhypothesis density (PHD) lter when incorporating these binary reports. This work investigates how the sensordensity, sensing range, and target separation aect the ability of the PHD lter to estimate the number of targetsin the scene and to localize these targets (as measured by four dierent metrics). Two possible measurementmodels are considered. The disc model assumes target detection within a sensing radius, and the probabilisticmodel assumes 1 /r propagation decay of the source signal so that the probability of detection decreases withrange r. The simulations demonstrate the simplistic disc model is inadequate for the PHD lter to estimate thenumber of targets, and the lter for the disc model exhibits diculty to localize widely separated targets forlow sensor densities. On the other hand, the more realistic probabilistic model leads to a PHD lter that canaccurately estimate the number and locations of targets even for small target separations.Keywords: Proximity sensor, multiple target tracking, PHD lter" @default.
