- W2030389502 abstract "Abstract The addition of perchloric acid to a solution of a tetraalkylhydrazine in acetonitrile gives the protonated hydrazine which is very difficult to oxidize. The rate of deprotonation is too slow to give a detectable current for oxidation of the free hydrazine to its radical cation. When weak acids are added, substantial kinetic currents are observed even when a large excess of acid is present. Attempts to study this CE scheme under pseudo-first-order conditions were hampered by the development of an interfering oxidation process when excess conjugate base of the weak acid was added. The interference was less pronounced in dimethyl sulfoxide where a chronoamperometric technique was developed for the CE scheme without excess conjugate base of the weak acid. The technique was applied to the oxidation of tetramethylhydrazine in dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of excess salicyclic acid. The results were found to conform to the CE scheme with the rate constant for protonation of tetramethylhydrazine by salicyclic acid being 1.9×10 3 M −1 s −1 and that of the reverse reaction 3.2×10 3 M −1 s −1 ." @default.
