- W2030395932 abstract "The theory of parental investment predicts the differences between the sexes based on the familial strategy which each parent uses, according to the size of his/her investment. The mother, who invests more in the children than the father, will be willing to risk herself more for their sakes, and will try harder to protect them from danger. Sex differences in risk taking were tested in three typical family situations. Family stories were presented to men and women who were asked to decide how they would act. In all three situations, the woman was found to be more eager to employ a strategy which would ensure the welfare of the children, than the man. In a situation of infidelity, a comparison was made between women in a kibbutz and women in the city. It was found that though not being financially dependent makes divorce easier on the kibbutz, the woman is still more willing to compromise with her unfaithful spouse than the man. Neutralizing the economic factor points to the validity of the genetic factor in forming the familial strategies of each sex." @default.
