Ecological studies have indicated that some species may be used as indicators of water quality, considering the involvement of river basins in human agricultural, industrial, and urban activities. The aim of the present study was to study the abundance of benthic crustaceans in a small stream located inside Temuco town, and to determine correlations of their various abundances with pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen. The species discussed here are Aegla rostrata , Hyalella araucana , and Parastacus pugnax . We report an inverse correlation between dissolved oxygen and A. rostrata abundance, as well as of temperature with H. araucana abundance, whereas P. pugnax showed no significant correlations. The ecological results are discussed. Los crustaceos bentonicos en rios chilenos, se caracterizan por su baja riqueza de especies y marcado endemismo. Los estudios ecologicos indican que algunas especies pueden ser utilizadas como indicadores de calidad de agua, considerando el uso de suelo de los rios, ya que sus cuencas presentan usos agricolas, industriales y urbanos. El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar las abundancias de crustaceos bentonicos en un pequeno rio urbano, localizado dentro de la ciudad de Temuco, y determinar las asociaciones de sus abundancias con pH, temperatura y oxigeno disuelto. Se reportaron las especies Aegla rostrata , Hyalella araucana y Parastacus pugnax . Se reporto una correlacion inversa significativa entre oxigeno disuelto y la abundancia de A. rostrata , mientras que se reporto una tendencia similar entre temperatura y abundancia de H. araucana , mientras que no hubo correlacion significativa con la abundancia de P. pugnax con los parametros estudiados.
