- W2031081520 abstract "Large bullfrogs and rats were injected with 35S-thiamine and spinal cords and sciatic nerves were subsequently removed and perfused. The perfusate was monitored for the efflux of labeled thiamine using a flow cell mounted in a liquid scintillation spectrometer. With this technique it was shown that neuroactive drugs added to the perfusion fluid promoted the release of labeled vitamin. Thus, acetylcholine (10−6 M), tetrodotoxin (3 × 10−8 M), ouabain (10−6 M) and lysergic acid diethylamide (1·5 × 10−7 M) all released thiamine whereas agents such as choline (10−4 M) and sodium chloride (5 × 10−2 M) had no effect. This relationship between thiamine and drugs that affect ion movements had a further dimension in that whereas in the nerve preparations the bulk of the vitamin was in the form of the di- or triphosphate, the released material consisted of free thiamine and thiamine monophosphate." @default.
