- W2031207248 abstract "Submandibular salivary epithelium of the 13-day mouse embryo, following trypsin-pancreatin separation from its investing mesenchyme, incorporates tritiated glucosamine when incubated in labeled tissue culture medium for 1 hour at 37°C. After being cultured for 24 hours trans-filter from unlabeled mesenchyme of a similar age, the label is manifested autoradiographically as high grain count beyond the basal surface of the epithelial cells. Grain counts over the epithelial cells were found to rise to a maximum between 2 and 6 hours in culture and subsequently to fall. Grain counts beyond the basal cell surface were found to increase during the first 24 hours in culture. These data are interpreted to indicate that label appearing at the basal cell surface by 24 hours in culture represents an epithelial cell product. Suggestive evidence that the labeled material is a mucopolysaccharide comes from the fact that hyaluronidase removes the label whereas collagenase does not. Evidence is presented that surface materials removed by trypsin-pancreatin at the time of culture, or after 24 hours, are important in controlling the uptake of tritiated glucosamine." @default.
