- W2032259851 abstract "ABSTRACT The piper platform, installed in 1975-6 with initial production in November 1976, is believed to have had the world's highest production rate for a single integrated platform. By 1 July 1980, over 300 million barrels of oil and condensate had been produced, 114 million barrels of treated sea water had been injected and 529 million cubic meters (19 billion cubic feet) of gas had been compressed for transport to shore. This paper describes the basic design of the production surface facilities together with design modifications carried out to increase production capacity. Facility operating problems are described together with the steps taken to correct these problems. Also included are reliability factors of major pieces of rotating equipment. Facilities are now producing with an acceptable operating reliability. INTRODUCTION The Piper platform located in Block 15/17 in the British North Sea sector initiated production on November 1976 with completion of the first well. The peak annual daily average production was achieved in 1979 during which an average daily production rate of 284 MBOPD with daily peak rates reaching 348MBOPD was achieved. The production facilities were originally designed to handle 262 MBOPD of 36' API gravity, 380 SCF/STB producing GOR separated at 6.9bar (100 psig), with a water injection capacity of 320 MBWPD at 103 bar (1500psi) well-head pressure (WHP), and reinjection of 70 MMSCFPD of associated gasback into the reservoir at a WHP of 241 bar (3500 psi). The platform consists of four main production modules 15 m × 46 m (50 ft ×150 ft) each, supported on a conventional twenty-four pile jacket in 145 m (474ft) of water. Two drilling rigs were originally installed, with conductor guides for a total of 36 wells. Basically the production, water treatment, gas compression and utilities facilities are located on one level at +25 m, with the drilling and quarter packages situated above at the +33 m level. General arrangement of the production facilities is shown on Figure 1, a photograph of the platform is shown in Fig. 2. Total topside operating weight of the structure inclusive of the deck support frame is around 17,000 metric tons." @default.
