Aerosols were 0.25 μm in diameter, and concentrations were higher than the range reported for air sampled in polluted regions. Although CO2 uptake rates decreased following exposure to KNO3 in bur oak and to (NH4)2SO4 in maize, and increased following exposure to NH4NO3 in soybean, observed changes were small and were not observed in all cases. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that acute exposure to high concentrations of these dry, nitrate- and sulphate-containing aerosols have only slight effects on photosynthesis in these species." @default.
