- W2033131775 abstract "The behaviour and shape of the C-O stretching band of four merocyanines with different basic grouping but with the same acidic nucleus from 3-ethyl-rhodanine, have been studied in carbon disulphide-methylene chloride mixtures of different composition. In pure CS2 the C-O band of these molecules is sufficiently simple to indicate a virtual absence of solvent interactions, apart from minor effects of the dipole-induced dipole type. In the mixtures the C-O band is splitted, with a continuous relative variation of intensity of the components which contribute to the band envelope; also the apparent half-band width increases with the mole fraction of polar solvent in the mixtures. The relative amount of methylene chloride sufficient to split the band or to give evidence of its complexity, depends typically from the basicity of the positive nucleus in the dipolar structure. The present observations give further evidence as to the occurrence of local vibrator-solvent interactions in determining the medium induced frequency shifts." @default.
