- W2033503640 abstract "The effects of 5-hydroxytryptophan, the precursor of serotonin, and of p-chloro-N-methylamphetamine, an inhibitor of serotonin synthesis, on morphine-induced catalepsy and on striatal dopamine turnover were studied in rats. p-Chloro-N-methylamphetamine inhibited and 5-hydroxytryptophan enhanced morphine-induced catalepsy. The effects of both drugs on striatal dopamine turnover, as indicated by the concentration of homovanillic acid, were much less pronounced: neither of the drugs affected homovanillic acid concentration when given alone. 5-Hydroxytryptophan did not influence the morphine-induced rise of homovanillic acid concentration, while p-chloro-N-methylamphetamine slightly enhanced it. Although the results suggest some interactions between dopaminergic and serotoninergic mechanisms, it seems to be very unlikely that a direct action of morphine on serotoninergic neurones is relevant for catalepsy and rise of striatal dopamine turnover." @default.
