The evidence, to date, to support such transmission remains entirely based on untested epidemiologic observations. Dr Redfield and his colleagues are to be congratulated for their continued efforts to provide evidence for both male-to-female and female-to-male transmission of infection and disease.1 I am not convinced, however, that they have yet completely succeeded in their goal. They report on ten men with HTLV-III-associated diseases who denied traditional risk factors.
