Six superficial reaction constants were estimated using a non-linear program. For an aluminum hydroxide characterized by NS=1.1 sites nm −2 and PZC 8.2, the following values were obtained: pK1=6.37, pK2=10.03: amphoteric dissociation of = Al-OH groups; pK3=3.40, pK4=3.58: complexation of charged sites = Al-OH+2 and = Al-O− by Cl− and Na+ respectively; pk5 = 0.094, pK6 0.88: adsorption onto uncharged sites = Al-Oh. The last four values indicate an electrostatic adsorption of Na+ and Cl− ions onto the surface sites. An estimate of the ionic activity coefficients (γd) at the interface leads to very low values as compared with those of Debye-Hückel for a bulk solution." @default.
