- W2034056748 abstract "Type 2A serine/threonine protein phosphatases (PP2A) are critical in controlling the phosphorylation state of plant proteins involved in such diverse processes as metabolism and auxin transport. This multimeric enzyme exists within cells either as a dimer of the catalytic subunit (PP2Ac) and a 65 kDa A regulatory subunit or as a trimer of PP2Ac, A and a B type regulatory subunit. Here we present 1–2 kb of putative promoter sequence of three Arabidopsis PP2A subunit genes (PP2Ac-2, AtBα and AtBβ). Analysis of this sequence reveals no consensus sequences present in all three genes which might, in a coordinate fashion, modulate their expression. We prepared transgenic Arabidopsis plants carrying PP2A subunit promoter-β-glucuronidase (GUS) fusions in an effort to predict the in vivo composition of PP2A heterotrimers in various plant cells. Our results show that PP2A subunit accumulation occurs in a subtly unique, yet largely overlapping pattern and suggest that numerous, at times distinct, PP2A catalytic and regulatory protein combinations may occur in various plant cells. Given that the specificity, activity and subcellular localization of PP2A is mediated by its subunit composition, our results predict that different PP2A heterotrimers may be necessary to mediate defined reversible protein phosphorylation events during plant growth and development." @default.
