In the unanaesthetized pigtailed monkey ( Macaca nemestrina ) in which body temperature was monitored, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and norepinephrine were micro-injected into the hypothalamus. 2. 2. 5-HT in dose of 2·5–10·0 μg caused a dose-dependent rise in temperature. Conversely, norepinephrine in a similar range of doses produced a fall in temperature. 3. 3. The region of maximum responsiveness to the two monoamines was the thermosensitive zone in the interior hypothalamus. 4. 4. These results provide additional support for the modulatory role of the monoamines in thermoregulation in the infra-human primate." @default.
