- W2034146850 abstract "The polarization of protons elastically and inelastically scattered on 24Mg, 52Cr and 58Ni leaving the residual nucleus in its first excited state was measured with a carbon polarimeter. The energy of the incident protons was varied between 5.38 and 5.95 MeV and the lab scattering angle between 45° and 120°. In addition, the excitation functions were measured for 24Mg (p, p1)24Mg∗ between 5 and 6 MeV and for 52Cr(p, p0)52Cr and 52Cr(p, p1)52Cr∗ between 5 and 6.5 MeV. Large values of the polarization were determined for the protons scattered on 24Mg and in agreement with the predictions of the statistical CN model, no polarization was observed for the protons inelastically scattered on 58Ni. Relatively large polarizations were found in the inelastic scattering on 52Cr which seems to indicate a violation of the statistical assumptions. The latter had been believed to be fulfilled, since (p, p′γ) angular correlation measurements on 52Cr had given excellent agreement with the statistical CN theory. On the other hand, the angular cross-correlation function of the cross-section fluctuations also does not agree with the statistical theory. The correlated intermediate structure of the excitation functions can probably be interpreted as an excitation of doorway states which in turn would also explain the measured polarizations." @default.
