- W2034157341 abstract "It has been suggested that the presence of hyaluronan in the culture media prior to embryo transfer can significantly improve implantation and pregnancy rates. The goal of this study was to compare outcomes in blastocyst frozen embryo transfer (ET) cycles after the use of Quinn's Advantage™ Medium with HEPES supplemented with 10% Quinn's Advantage™ Serum Protein Substitute and EmbryoGlue™, with a higher concentration of hyaluronan, as the transfer media. A retrospective study. A total of 354 patients undergoing blastocyst frozen ET cycles between January 2004 and December 2006 were included in this study. All embryos were frozen and thawed using Blastocyst Freeze Media (Irvine Scientific, USA) and Blastocyst Thaw Media (Irvine Scientific) after 5–6 days of culture. In group I (157 patients), thawed embryos were cultured in Quinn's Advantage Protein Plus™ Blastocyst Medium (Sage, USA) and transferred in Quinn's Advantage™ Medium with HEPES (Sage) supplemented with 10% Quinn's Advantage™ Serum Protein Substitute (Sage), whereas embryos of group II (197 patients) were cultured in EmbryoGlue™ (Vitrolife, Sweden) and transferred. Embryo transfer was performed using ultrasound guidance and an Echotip® Soft-Pass™ Embryo Transfer Catheter (Cook, USA) with a continuous column of transfer medium. Embryos were transferred in 40 μl of medium. Results were analyzed using student's t-test. P-values of <.05 was considered statistically significant. Statistical analyses were performed using Microsoft Excel. The results expressed as mean ± SD or percentages, as appropriate, are summarized below. Patient characteristics such as age, number of embryos selected for transfer, time between thaw and transfer, and embryo quality score were all similar between the two groups. No statistically significant differences were observed in the implantation and pregnancy rates.
