The one‐way wave‐equation‐based propagator is used to extrapolate the wavefields from both the source and receivers to a target region. The plane wave analysis method is used to decompose the wavefields and calculate the wavenumber domain resolution function. The method can be applied to complex models without smoothing velocity. It can also handle irregular acquisition geometry and finite frequency band. The resulting resolution function can be used to estimate image quality or correct the image distortion caused by the uneven illumination.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.2148066FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byAcoustic impedance inversion using convolutional neural network with transfer learningShaoyong Liu, Wenjun Ni, Wenqian Fang, and Lihua Fu24 February 2022Internal Multiple Removal and Illumination Correction for Seismic ImagingIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Vol. 60Angle Domain Illumination Compensated Full Waveform InversionIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Vol. 60Point‐spread function convolution to simulate prestack depth migrated images: A validation study6 August 2021 | Geophysical Prospecting, Vol. 69, No. 8-9Imaging conditions for elastic RTM: A comparative investigation in angle domainBingkai Han, Hanming Gu, Shaoyong Liu, and Zhe Yan1 September 2021An illumination‐compensated Gaussian beam migration for enhancing subsalt imaging9 June 2021 | Geophysical Prospecting, Vol. 69, No. 7An Effective Acoustic Impedance Imaging Based on a Broadband Gaussian Beam Migration7 July 2021 | Energies, Vol. 14, No. 14Paleokarst reservoirs: Efficient and flexible characterization using point-spread-function-based convolution modelingKristian Jensen, Martin Kyrkjebø Johansen, Isabelle Lecomte, Xavier Janson, Jan Tveranger, and Tina Kaschwich24 February 2021 | Interpretation, Vol. 9, No. 2Elastic Full Waveform Inversion With Angle Decomposition and Wavefield DecouplingIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Vol. 59, No. 1Efficient and flexible characterization of paleokarst seismic signatures using point-spread function-based convolution modelingKristian Jensen, Isabelle Lecomte, Xavier Janson, and Jan Tveranger30 September 2020Reflected wave least squares reverse time migration with angle illumination compensation4 October 2019 | Acta Geophysica, Vol. 67, No. 6Improving seismic image resolution in a carbonate fracture cave region: A case studyNaijian Wang, Xiao-Bi Xie, Meng-Chuan Duan, Daoshan Li, and Ru-Shan Wu10 August 2019Analyses on diving-wave imaging artifacts in RTM and an effective removal strategy based on wavelength-dependent smoothingBingkai Han, Zhe Yan, Yongjie Tang, Shaoyong Liu, and Hanming Gu10 August 2019Velocity and Density Reconstruction Based on Scattering Angle Separation15 June 2018 | Pure and Applied Geophysics, Vol. 175, No. 12Scattering angle-based simultaneous estimation for velocity and densityJingrui Luo, Ru-Shan Wu, Haixia Zhao, and Benfeng Wang27 August 2018Separation of Migration and Tomography Modes of Full-Waveform Inversion in the Plane Wave Domain7 February 2018 | Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Vol. 123, No. 2The effect of strong near-surface scattering on the quality of seismic imagingBaoqing He, Xiao-Bi Xie, Hongxiao Ning, Yongqing He, and Bo Chen17 August 2017RTM amplitude correction in angle-domain based on Poynting vectorsLiu Ji-cheng*, Xie Xiao-bi, and Chen Bo31 May 2017Full-wave seismic illumination and resolution analyses: A Poynting-vector-based methodZhe Yan and Xiao-Bi Xie7 September 2016 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 81, No. 6A Poynting vector-based illumination and resolution analysis method for full-wave RTMXiao-Bi Xie and Zhe Yan1 September 2016How scatterings from small-scale near-surface heterogeneities affecting seismic data and the quality of depth image, analysis based on seismic resolutionXiao-Bi Xie, Hongxiao Ning, and Bo Chen1 September 2016The imaging resolution analysis for complex models applied in seismic survey designBaoqing He, Donglei Tang, Yongqing He, Bo Long, and Xiaobi Xie1 September 2016Full-wavefield marine survey design using all multiplesAmarjeet Kumar, Gerrit Blacquière, Morten W.
