• W2034268111 abstract "Summary The main purpose of this study was to investigate the oestrous symptoms at puberty and during the two subsequent oestrous periods in the gilt. The investigation comprised a total of 369 purebred Swedish Yorkshire gilts. The gilts were carefully checked for oestrous symptoms twice daily, from 160 to 260 days of age, and blood samples for progesterone determination were drawn from 170 days until puberty. The duration of prooestrus was longer (p ≤ 0.001) at the first oestrous period than at the two subsequent oestrous periods and decreased (p ≤ 0.05) with an increase in age at puberty. Most of the oestrous symptoms were significantly correlated within the first and between the first three oestrous periods. Twenty percent of the gilts did not show standing reflex and anovulatory oestrus was found in 2 % of the gilts at puberty, as demonstrated by progesterone determinations. The frequency of gilts not showing standing reflex at the second and third oestrus was approximately the same as at the first oestrous period. The first oestrous cycle was longer (p ≤ 0.001) than the second cycle. Approximately 95 % of the gilts had a cycle length within 18 to 24 days at the first and second oestrous cycle. Zusammenfassung Untersuchungen zur Pubertät und zum östrus von Jungsauen Hauptzweck dieser Studie war es, bei Sauen die Brunstsymptome in der Pubertät sowie während der folgenden beiden Brunstperioden zu untersuchen. Die Studie umfaßte 369 reinrassige Schwedische Yorkshire‐Schweine. Die Sauen wurden im Altersabschnitt von 160–260 Tagen zweimal täglich auf Brunstsymptome überprüft. Ferner wurden vom 170. Tag bis zur Pubertät Blutproben für die Progesteronbestimmung entnommen. Die Dauer des Proöstrus war während der ersten östrusperiode länger (p ≤ 0,001) als in den beiden folgenden östrusperioden und nahm mit zunehmendem Pubertätsalter ab (p ≤ 0,05). Die meisten Brunstsymptome waren in der ersten Brunstperiode miteinander korreliert. Auch zwischen den ersten drei Brunstperioden ergaben sich für die Brunstsymptome Korrelationen Zwanzig Prozent der Sauen zeigten in der Pubertät keinen Duldungsreflex; ein mittels Progesteronbestimmung nachgewiesener östrus ohne Ovulation ergab sich bei 2 % der Sauen. Die Häufigkeit von Sauen ohne Duldungsreflex während des 2. und 3. östrus entsprach etwa der des 1. östrus. Der erste Brunstzyklus war länger (p ≤ 0,001) als der zweite. Etwa 95 % der Sauen hatten im 1. und 2. Brunstzyklus eine Zykluslänge von 18–24 Tagen." @default.
